Margaret Stephenson - Showing Artist
In searching for a new hobby to help create pizzaz in her later life, Margaret decided on vintage doll repair as a useful and personally rewarding pastime. But being a creative soul, it was not long before she began thinking about how much fun it would be to make some little personalities from scratch, something entirely new to companion with the wonderful vintage and antique dolls she worked with. She looked to the materials at hand, and decided to see what could be done with papier mache. It was quite challenging to come up with original models for the heads and hands, still using materials found around the shop, but eventually, they were evolved from rough papier mache and joint compound. Currently, she has branched out to create art dolls using recycled fabrics. Wherever possible, the fabrics are vintage or even antique. She also has a wealth of vintage lace, crochet work and other trims to draw from in her work. Margaret is also a member of the Birmingham Art Association and the Doll Doctors Association. Her work can be seen at “What’s On 2nd?” in downtown Birmingham(2nd Avenue North, of course). Click here to see more on the web.
