SAM CORNMAN
GLASS ARTIST (Sculptor, Creative Mind Explorer, and Poet) |

Sam Cornman is an internationally recognized
artist who has been blowing glass, flame working glass, casting
hot glass, and creating sculpture for eight years. Sam has also
been operating his own glass studio, Blue Sky Glass, since 2002
in which he creates unique glass sculptures and elegantly
designed objects for the home and commercial decor.
Sam fell in love with glass as a child while visiting the Corning
Glass Museum. He went on to study at the Rochester
Institute of Technology’s School of American Crafts, earning a
Bachelor's Degree of Fine Art in Glass Sculpture and Glass
Blowing in 2004. |

| He has also studied at the
Corning Museum of Glass Studio, More Fire Glass Studio, and the Penland School of
Crafts in North Carolina. After graduating from the School of American
Crafts, Sam moved south to Birmingham, Alabama to blow glass at
Bear Creek Glass, where he is currently the Hot Glass Studio
Coordinator, Lead Gaffer, and a Teaching Instructor. Since
moving to Alabama in 2004, Sam has been sharing his unique glass
art sculptures and designs with the local community in various
galleries, shows, and collections. Recently, he was commissioned
to create a sculpture for the Balch and Bingham Law Firm for
their Conference Room Lobby in the Harbert Building. Sam is also
a weekly fixture at the Pepper Place Farmers Market. |

In 2007, Sam set up an educational program at
Bear Creak Glass. He is also involved with the Junior Patrons of
the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Birmingham Art Collective,
which helps to promote contemporary art while giving young
artists an opportunity to share their art with the public. Sam
also helped the University of Montevallo set up a hot glass
studio, giving many of the Montevallo students their first ever
experience with molten glass. In 2009, Sam will have a solo show
at Samford University, and another solo gallery show in New York
at St. Bonaventure University in conjunction with the 2009 Glass
Art Society Conference in Corning, NY. |
